The GTAP-Power Database: Disaggregating the Electricity Sector in the GTAP Database

چکیده

Computable general equilibrium (CGE) models are ubiquitous in energy and environmental economics research. Recent technological advancements in electricity fuels, generation technologies, and environmental policies which target specific generation technologies (e.g., emission regulations) have motivated detailed CGE modeling of the electricity sector. Modeling these issues requires distinct electricity generating technologies in a CGE database. Researchers using the GTAP database have disaggregated the electricity sector into generating technologies independently using largely disparate, incomparable methodologies. This paper presents a methodology to create an electricity-detailed CGE database with transmission and distribution and several generating technologies, termed the GTAP-Power database. The GTAPPower database extends the GTAPv9 database in that all of the GTAPv9 data are included in the GTAP-Power version. The methodology leverages available economic and technological data along with informed expert assumptions regarding the structure of the electricity sector. Furthermore, it is transparent, repeatable, and publicly-available to encourage a common electricity-detailed CGE database for researchers and to promote continuous improvement of the database. Major limitations in the initial version accompanying GTAPv9 database are the lack of regional coverage in input cost data and disparity between available data and the total values for the electricity aggregate.

Disaggregating Household Transport in the MIT EPPA Model

The GTAP version 5 dataset has three transportation sectors. However, household transportation expenditures related to private automobiles are not represented explicitly in the data. We augment the existing GTAP data to separately disaggregate household transportation and explore the implications of this extension in the MIT Emissions Predictions and Policy Analysis (EPPA) model. Climate policy...

Long-Run Simulations With GTAP: Illustrative Results from APEC Trade Liberalisation

In static applied general equilibrium models, the exogenous/endogenous split between variables (or closure) is used to infer the time frame over which the effects of a shock are simulated. This paper introduces a long-run closure for the GTAP model (Hertel and Tsigas, 1997) and uses this closure to simulate and compare the short-run and long-run effects of Asia-Pacific trade liberalisation. The...

GTAP-AGR : A Framework for Assessing the Implications of Multilateral Changes in Agricultural Policies

Global models of agricultural trade have a long and distinguished history. The introduction of the GTAP data base and modeling project represented a significant advance forward as it put modelers and trade policy analysts on common ground. After an initial generation of GTAP based modeling of agricultural trade policy using the standard modeling framework, individual researchers have begun intr...
